Wow. What an album. I've loved Ween since I first listened to the first second of Chocolate and Cheese, but I never stopped to listen to The Mollusk until months ago. What an experience. The album starts out with a nice rhyme about going to dance at a show, before transitioning into the psychadelic and very nautical title track. The title track tells the story about a little boy finding a mollusk in the ground, emulating the ocean sound. The next track, Polka Dot Tail, is a very nautical shanty-childrens-song-thing about many fascinating creatures, such as a whale with a polka dot tail, a man with 8 fingers on his hand, and others. I'll Be Your Jonny On The Spot hits that quick burst of energy every Ween album has, before transitioning back to the psychadelic ocean sound with Mutilated Lips. Have you ever wanted more swears in sea shanties? You would love The Blarney Stone. I've just noticed how relaxing this album is because of It's Gonna Be (Alright.) The Golden Eel actually kind of reminds me of I Can't Put My Finger On It from Chocolate and Cheese. Seriously. Listen to the songs. You will hopefully understand what I mean. Pink Eye is just one heck of a silly song. Don't know why I'm hearing dogs, though. Waving My Dick In the Wind is definitely the best song off of the album. Not even Ocean Man. Not even Buckingham Green. It's Waving My Dick In the Wind. Listen to it. I don't even need to say why. And... the song we've all been waiting for... Ocean Man!!!!! Not much to say about this song, it's pretty perfect.
I feel like a vinyl press shouldn't be this hard. Come onnnnnnnn.
I have a kinda weird-ish ranking system, where I rank the number tracks that I liked out of all the tracks. For example, WOLF would be a 14/18.
Out of the entire album, I liked 12 out of the 14 tracks.
This means that The Mollusk is an 12/14, or an 86 (strong 8 to light 9)
