SCARING THE HOES

Yes I know, I'm late to it. Easily one of the most chaotic albums in JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown's discography, Scaring the Hoes (yes, that's the name) is also one of their best. They sample iPhone sounds, old soul tracks, famous songs (even Milkshake!), and others. The opening track, Lean Beef Patty, immediately throws you in and lets you know how the album is going to sound. The track is also one of the hardest out of the entire album. Then, there's the title track, with lots of clapping and a saxophone? Garbage Pale Kids is one of my personal favorites off of the entire album. It samples a Japanese commercial, and not only that, they made it super hard. The next track, Fentanyl Tester, sounds like if JPEGMAFIA produced for Sonic The Hedgehog 2. Not only that, it samples one of the most recognizable songs, Milkshake. Yes, THAT Milkshake. I honestly have not enough words to describe how good Burfict! is. It's one of the best off of the album, and the marching band samples mixed with JPEGMAFIA's production is something I never thought I needed. Orange Juice Jones has to be the most relaxing JPEGMAFIA song I've ever heard. Sounds something straight out of Floral Shoppe to be honest. God Loves You has to be one of the hardest tracks out of the entire album. That bass? That will sound so good on my speaker. Not to mention the sample??? Where does he even get these??? Jack Harlow Combo Meal is an... interesting name, but the sampling is so good. All of that on ONLY the Roland 404??? I could never. The final track, Where Ya Get Ya Coke From, has some of the most unique sampling I've ever heard. It goes from sounding nice and possibly even tropical sounding to something insane.

THE GREATEST ALBUM OF 2023?

Honestly... in my opinion... yes it is.

As much as I love Mitski, 100 gecs and SZA, I don't think they compare to STH. Or maybe that's just me glazing experimental stuff. Honestly, the past 5 years have been some insane years for music so far, and I'm excited to see what comes next, especially from Danny Brown and JPEGMAFIA. Maybe Death Grips will reunite? Maybe King Gizzard will release their, what, 572nd album? Maybe Merzbow will drop their 9283rd album this year...

COMMENTS AND CONCERNS

I've seen many comments about this album, but there was one that stuck out to me the most. They said that it felt more like "JPEGMAFIA ft. Danny Brown" instead of "JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown." And honestly? They're not wrong. There's not much Danny Brown sounding tracks through the album. Like, yeah, he's on the album. But he doesn't, like, add much FEELING to the album. Is it really a collab album with Danny Brown? Or is it just a JPEGMAFIA album featuring Brown on every track? Or maybe he helped with production?

He fit perfectly on Garbage Pale Kids, though

RANKING

I have a kinda weird-ish ranking system, where I rank the number tracks that I liked out of all the tracks. For example, WOLF would be a 14/18.

Out of the entire album, I liked 11 out of the 14 tracks.

This means that Scaring the Hoes is an 11/14, or a 79 (strong 7 to light 8)
